In my opinion, no collection is complete without a ball python, male or female, regular or crazy morph. We got one last June and I am sooo glad we did, he is the sweetest thing, he is one of my favourites out of all our snakes. Regulars are fairly cheap (we picked ours up for $45), but getting up into morphs can get expensive. Some nice morphs (in my opinion) include bumblebee, ghost, pewter, leucistic and piebald (pieds are going for about $1500-$2000 now). I've heard that some morphs such as pinstripe and spider have a weird condition, I can't remember the name of it and what exactly the problem is, and I think it's due to too much inbreeding within those morphs, I think part of the problem is that when they climb their enclosure looking for a way to escape, it will keep going until its upside down and will fall or something. This is just what I have heard, someone on here that's more familiar with balls might be able to clarify. Good luck with whatever you choose :)

Dart frogs.
http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/

I have been looking into these the past few days. Some of the enclosures that are made for them are works of art. I would love to get just a pair of Red ones and make an elaborate enclosure with plants and stuff.

California Kingsnake.

OR you can look into native fish. Pike, bass, and sunnies are all very interesting.

Wolf spiders, Fishing spiders, Lynx spiders, Trapdoor spiders, Funnel web spiders, Purseweb spiders, Jumping spiders, Six-eyed sand spiders (quite dangerous!) Golden orb-weavers, Huntsman spiders, Crab spiders, Wall crab spiders, Mouse spiders and of course the primitive trapdoor spiders Liphistiidae.

+1 on the Tegu, boas (try to make color morphs, too. Those are getting popular among hobbyists), vinegaroons and darts.

Any room for African bullfrogs or oscar fish? Those are amazing pets as well. Oscars are very tough fish and if anyone thought Floyd the toad was big, you should see an adult male bullfrog!

i own T's, scorps and trues as well...plus a communal tank of amblypygi (tail-less whip scorpion)...the pseudo-scorps and such are pretty sweet in my book. i also own crestys, leopard geckos and snakes (an 8' boa and a milk snake) my roommates have rats, hedgehogs, frogs, lizards, geckos and a dog plus T's and scorps themselves (all in all we have 167 different animals not to mention the roach colony we have to feed most of our little ones lmao) but for the money, time and effort the pseudos are my vote.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pseudoscorpions rarely exceede 5mm? Do you mean Vinegaroons, or Uropygids?:? I wouldn't mind keeping one myself though. It could probably live off fruit flies and springtails.

Do you mean the wobble? Pretty sure that almost every spider has at least a slight wobble. Not too bad really and I don't think anyone really knows the cause. Plus most the time if its severe enough that it would cause living problems reputable breeders will euthanize them. Definitely a great morph that can make some killer morphs. +1 for ball python.

If you get a ball python, go for a captive BRED regular. Captive BORN sounds like a decent idea, and is usually cheap, but many owners of these snakes don't realize that their wild numbers are on the decline. The way things are going, if this snake's status changes to even threatened, prices will go up, no normals will be imported, and we'll be stuck with these fancy morphs that are almost unaffordable to begin with.

I'll warn you, ball pythons are constantly competing with Grammostola rosea for the title of "The Ultimate Pet Rock."

PS-For inverts, crayfish.

perhaps u are right, my knowledge is still and will always be advancing (i dont claim to know everything) but i always assumed that the uro's and ambly's were in fact pseudo-scorps...if im wrong cool, but yes i did mean "vinegaroons" and "whiptails" they are a cool addition to any collection IMO

Thanks for the clarification. I had heard that it was only spiders and the morphs produced with spiders that get the 'wobble'. This was what was deterring me from getting a pinstripe but I've read on some ads dealers saying that they haven't seen the wobble with a particular snake. I'll have to look more into it, as the morphs produced with spiders are gorgeous and I wouldn't mind having a few.

Cass

PS I still vote ball python ;)
