I am SUCH a wuss! My son's step-mom decided it was time to get rid of their two snakes, a California King and a gopher snake. They are LTC WCs and she was going to let them go! I couldn't let her do that, so now I have two new snakes!

I was very surprised to see that California Rosy Boas, which end up in my kitchen drawers when it's cold outside, were selling for $75.00 at the last I.R.B.A. show! Does anyone know how valuable the California King (dark green and light yellow striped) goes for? Gopher snakes aren't worth anything, are they?

This shouldn't surprise me though, people actually BUY "black widows" when I just put two eggsacs down the garbage disposal last week! :(

I suppose the reason they are so expensive here is that they are indigenous species and it's illegal to sell WC individuals.

The cool thing is waking up in the morning to make coffee and finding a baby rosy boa in your kitchen drawer!! {D

I would have a heart attack...I love rosy boas (too expensive for me at the moment though--i think they're pricy everywhere) I guess since they're local you cant keep them? :( I had thought it was illegal to collect rosy boas from the wild period regardless of locality

Regarding your cal king...i'd call 35 bucks a quite good deal for a snake that size...could probably get 50 at the very tops for it, based on my observations.

As for the gopher snake...I paid for one of those when i was younger (again though, they dont live around here) So I imagine you could indeed sell it, if its decent looking and has a good disposition. Personally I really like gophers for their size and color> would offer to buy it off you but im in no shape to get another snake at hte moment

I'm dysfuntional... I don't seem to fear much of ANYTHING!

We are not allowed to collect them and keep them, no. But keeping a few WC specimens in your own private collection is no big deal, I've had AC officers in my home looking at every beast in my collection and they don't inquire about the local species. They DO however, investigate anyone SELLING our indigenous species. If you don't have proof that they are captive bred, you'll pay a hefty fine!

My red tail boas were escape artists. I had one come up from under the burner in my stove once. Just popped his head up. Was hard to get him out of there.
