I'm conflicted, on the one hand I think: "It's a male, and you should just let him go find a mate!" On the other hand I think: "He's looking for a mate in your basement, so maybe he doesn't deserve to breed?" Then on the third hand I think: "Isn't luck a survival strategy? If he's lucky you'll turn him loose to do his thing, or go out and find a mate for him!"

What's their lifespan anyway, and do males live shorter ones?

ya i know its a male... it was walking across the floor so just from that behavior i ruled out female... i am definalty on the mission to find him a female... the little guy will have a chance to get his jollys off if i have anything to say about it... besides anyone else in my house would have killed him on site.. i will do my best to find him a chick and the food will be plentifull... he will live out the rest of his days just fine..

go look where grass grows thick next to things. things like buildings and overgrown flower beds. just pull back the grass and look. i always find them like that. this time of year the females are usually carrying eggsacs. have fun!
