Well, I got pathetically bored with my leopard geckos, so I traded them in for a bearded dragon. The lady at the pet store said that it is a Snow x Sandfire hybrid. When I have better light, I will take a picture.

Good for you Jon,
I'm in the market for a breeding pair myself.
Make sure it gets plenty of water.;)

Its water dish takes up about 1/3 of the floor space of its 10 gallon aquarium.

nice one - Beardies are my favorite lizard to keep.

But a water dish? Maybe Ive been doing something wrong but I have never kept a water dish in with my beardies?

Ive always kept them totaly dry and assumed that they get all the water they need from their food? Although Ive never kept a hatchling beardie - do they need water at a young age?

My only beardie at the moment(as far as I belive) is pushing 11 years old - although this can only be judged if the person I got him from was telling the truth about how old he was.

Anyways - congrats on the new addition

cheers,

Stu.

Congrats. Beardies are cool herps to own.

Btw, Stu, I'm with you. I have had my two female beardies for 5 years (raised from hatchlings). The only time I gave them a water dish was for the first 6 months and even then they seemed to ignore the offering. I have always assumed (and read) that being desert animals that they would get their water needs fulfilled from their food (i.e. Lettuce).

Gee, I hope I haven't been treating them poorly but they seem healthy.

Beardies will not drink standing water. When they are babies, you should mist them a couple times a day. They also get alot of water from their food. You can provide a small water dish if you wish, but a large one is uneccesary.
