I HELD A TARANTULA!

*boogies* Most definitely not much more than a fact of life to most of you, but this is coming from the girl who adores spiders from afar (way, way, waaay afar) and whinges at the thought of holding one.

It was the science teacher's rosehair I mentioned from before. Even thought he's a 'school pet', we waited a week for him to get back to being used to 150 people banging around about his tank every day again.

I came back when there was no class, and she set Rock (the T) on the specified T blanket in the specified T area. He just sat there.. very entertaining. ;) Then she gently scooped him up and he just waltzed right out onto my arm and did some more sitting, LOL! He moved maybe once or twice, then decided he liked the blanket better. Then he was transplanted back to his home. And voila! My first one-on-one experience with a T!

Am I completely over the 'it's going to eat me!" feeling? Pretty much. I know they aren't all mellow like Rock and I know some of them are even dangerous, but I know they aren't monsters now. Unless they're those Orange Bitey Things I keep hearing so much about. :p

(Well, I knew they weren't before.. but you know, imaginations run wild..)

Do I want a T of my own? Of course! But I'm so not ready for my own little spider.. but I can definitely forsee a spider (or five!) in my future. And it's all your guyses fault!

Welcome. Im sorta a newb too. The only experience with T's I have is looking through the opaque walls of a tall deli cup containing a 1/2 inch spiderling. Its fun though. And beware.....Spiders, scorpions, Centipedes and Millipedes are very addicting. Be sure to stock up on Kritter Keepers and deli cups......thats what im doing=D

We have a few guys around here with more than 200 tarantulas..........im jealous......

I'm glad you had a great first handleing experience! Arachnophobia was why I got my first Ts, and it took me quite a while before I would handle them.

Now I'm an arachnophobic arachnoholic... :)

"Rock" sounds like an appropriate name for him, LOL!

Yay, Maxie-poo held a T! I'm so proud! (Maxie is my fwend, yes she is!)

And I will second the warning about addiction. I used to be neutral about tarantulas and now every time I see one I go "Aww!" and covet its cuteness.

I am trying to restrain myself, though.

I started because of intense arachnophobia also! Now I have 12 T's (Including 2 OBTs) and 3 different house spiders!! You'll get hooked before you know it! I'm even handing out business cards around here now for my new "Denver Tarantula Rescue!" Bring us your orphaned, sick and injured!
I've never been more captivated and amazed by any creature before. :D

Yeah, it's mostly you who's to blame(/thank) for all of this, you know. :D

Wouldn't that be Arachnophilic, Mendi?

And Max, I don't know what to say about wanting one. I can't really recommend ANYONE gets a Tarantula...because once they do, that one turns into two, then three, then 15, then..well, you get the picture.

So what kind of tarantula do you have your eye on yet?

Maybe RugbyDave can send you one of his Avicularia slings. :D

I dislike avics for the same reason you like them.. they're 'fuzzy'. >.o Other than that, I haven't really put any thought into it.

But when I do I think it'll be from the very same teacher who owns rock, turns out she has quite a collection of spiders. :D

Hehehe...

...I know it effects some of the guys on here when us ladies take their lead and run with it, and arachnophilic was too good for me to pass up :D

But what I meant to say was more like, I had several different species of OW'ers until earlier this year. I had pTerror cause me to revert back into an arachnobic reaction that worried me sooo much I found a few emotional stronger people that wanted them. I still keep some tabs on them, but I stick pretty much to the NW species now
