I.D. this strange bug found camping

Hello gys,

This one is baffleing me! Can you guys take a guess as to what this is? Found in Connecticut at night.

Does it fly like a retard>? i had something similar in my house last night(england) the wings were identicle it was about 1.3 cm

Looks like a small sp. of Megaloptera, family Corydalidae genus Chauliodes.

Wow, we've got two totally different threads at the same time asking to ID something from the same order :)

At least I believe it's the same order. I've never seen a dobsonfly with such large and feathery feelers.

male.... you probably more often see female cos they want to lay eggs in your hair..... or house

At least I believe it's the same order. I've never seen a dobsonfly with such large and feathery feelers.
Same order and same family in fact. Males just have feathery antenna in this Genus.

So what do these guys eat at this size? It is about 2 1/2" long.

Any other insect it can catch, kill, and chew up. Might take a small or medium cricket. But, they really need a lot of flight room for success in captivity.

I put it in a 5 gallon tank with substrate, some branches and water. I'll toss some 1/4"-1/2" crickets in tomorrow and will find out what he does to them.
