Sooooooooo cute!

I know, when I went to see him, he just laid there all passed out...and when I would pet him hed make little grunting noises. He's already that big at only 3 weeks, lol. He's going to be a big boy! I was telling my girlfriend I wont be able to find doggie T-shirts for him...he can just wear some of mine.

Any idea of what the annual costs are to keep a Great Dane thriving?
Probably a lot.

I cant imagine a 200 lb adult male great dane sitting on my lap haha. Might be a bit much ;)

Yeah I bet he's going to be so much bigger at 8 weeks when I go to pick him up. He's already huge!!!

$720 for food. On 8 cups a day.
$120 get it fixed
$150 for heartworms meds
--------------------
$990 the first year
then $870 after that.
--------------------
A then you will need to add $870 into a savings for Vet bills. You will spend at least this.
--------------------
Then there is getting insurance for your apartment.
I think that runs about $200+ normal renters a year.
If you do not have the insurance, good luck getting into an apartment.
--------------------
$750+990+870+200= $2810 for the first year
$870+870+200= $1940 after that.

But in eight years you will start having major problems, the vet bills will really start to come in.

Im with Dark Finder. Start saving for vetbills now. My Uncle used to raise Grate Danes, and man did they have health problems.

Also, isnt 5 weeks a little young to be taking it from its mother?

Thanks....exactly why I posed the question. My concern was a reference to "paying off" a three week old puppy. Maybe I'm wrong but my interpretation of this statement is that the puppy cannot be afforded outright. If I have misinterpreted, then all apologies...but it would be criminal for such a beautiful animal to ultimately end up at the Pound.

Why I posted the price. I lived next to a great dane and I love that dog, everyone on the block did, but when he hit 5 he developed several problems, $6,000 in one year for vet bills. Finally the owner could not afford to keep up with the bills and finally had him put down.

The price of a great dane, in the northwest, should be around $600-$1000.
He did not say that he could afford it, just paying off. I have put down a deposit for a ragdoll, then "paid it off" when the kitten was ready to come home.

There is some worry because of this post.

Three days later he spent money, that could have taken the snake to a vet, to by more tarantulas.

I do not see a problem, if it is allowed to go for long walks, run, and go to dog parks.

We used to have a Dane as well.. wonderful dogs. The short lifespan is made up for in love, but wow it hurts when they go !! Echo sadly developed something called Wobblers Syndrome.. I would recommend looking into that, just to learn. Its horrific to say the least. Also, as a side question.. did your breeder inform you of the special feeding needs of Dane puppies? The grow FAST, so most people assume you need to fill them full of high power food, however, too much of a good thing can cause overlapping of the growth plates in the legs causing sever deformities. If you would like more info on these things and cant find it on the web, let me know and I can send you some links.
Hes definately precious.. enjoy him !!

I am paying him off because he is only 3 weeks old...like i said in the first post. Why pay him off in full when I can do payments and save myself the trouble? Also, we agreed to do a buyback so if anything doesnt work out with the dog at any point in time, they can buy him back from us without any hesitation.

Holy thread stalker! Wow some serious issues. I dont go digging into peoples financial situation. Kind of lame and how much time do you have on your hands? I bought that snake when I was tight for money and just starting a job. My snake was actually fine and is doing quite well thanks. I dont need you to try and guess how much money I have or how much money I need for this dog. This thread was made because I am excited about having this dog. I already researched it, and understand the requirements.
