Hello, I am doing research at CAHS on the effects of certain things on orb-weaving spiders. The only problem is I do not know where I can get orb weaving spiders no online stores seem to have them and so far no one I have come across can help me. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it very much. Also any information that you may have about orb-weaving spiders would be great! Thank You.

This is not the best time of the year to get orb weavers, most live a year or less and any living now are likley at the end of their lifespan. The most common ones sold in the US are Nephila claviapes and Argiope aurantia , mainly because they are native and readily available in the summer. Ocassionally, there will be exotic Nephila offered. I still see some Araneus sp. around, but these tend to do poorly in captivity IME.

That's great! When I've attempted to keep them in the past, they never seem to want to build a web and just hid in the corner.

Ryguy-

Nephila don't do well in caging with limited ventilation. Most people end up letting the spider build a web in a corner of the house rather than in a cage. If you do use a cage, something LARGE and made of screen works well.
