I'm interested in getting a giant black water beetle or Hydrophilus triangularis but I don't know much about keeping them. Do they do okay in stagnant water or do they need a fish filter? What do they eat? How many gallons do they need? Can you keep more than one in a tank? How long do they live? And do they have any other special requirements?
I've kept other beetles and arthropods before but never a water beetle!

All they need is clean water. I'm unsure if the larvae have gills, but I do know that predaceous diving beetles dont require aeration, as their larvae breath oxygen.

Adults dont need filtration or aeration, but I believe their larvae have gills, and require it, not sure, though. perhaps they swim up to the surface like predaceous diving beetles?

One thing about their larvae- they're alot more carnivorous than adults.

Sweet! I'll be acquiring some adults and don't plan on breeding them so I think I'll be good! And I have a small filter if I do decide to breed them. Thank you! :>
