Hi I recently got into the hobby and set up a new enclosure for my a.avic. I purchased An electronic hydrometer yesterday but after placing it into the enclosure and waiting over night it is giving me a reason of 99%? When I take it out it is going down to 50-60% the soil is damp but not too damp and my t is just resting at the top on leaves and cork bark. I have taken the water pot out this morning and just got home but it is still reading 99%? Please help!

Yep, dump the hydrometer; it’s junk and not needed. Make sure you have good ventilation in your habitat, overflow the water dish when it’s empty to get some water in the substrate, and you can quit worrying about humidity.

Ditch the meter and let the sub dry out. Can you post a picture of your set up? Did you get it from a petshop? If yes, I'm afraid there might be more useless stuff sold to you. Petstores are notorious for doing that :shifty:

This is as it is at the moment. I have put the hydrometer in the bin. He is hiding at the top in the leaves. :-

That looks good actually :) waterdish needs to be full of course. The strands of moss are unnecessary and can give feeders a place to hide. There are two metal frames of ventilation?

Seeing the ventilation would be helpful. Ventilation is key to Avicularia.

As for the enclosure set up....the wood needs to extent to, or at least near the top....your wood is pretty useless. Plants are great though....when you add a larger piece of wood, keep those plants around the mid-top of it.

How big is the t in question?

I used a hygrometer in my T stirmi’s enclosure in the beginning. Always read 99% humidity. If it were that humid she would have gotten sick or died long ago.

Agree with cold blood, an image of what the ventilation looks like would be helpful.

Otherwise it's looking pretty good.

Always do research before getting a new pet, it may save you money. In this case, it would, the tool you bought is not needed for Ts.

Read the link in my sig. Ask questions back here when done.

When I started, I got one too, against all advice lol. My house is quite dry, I need a humidifier on me every night so I thought it important. However, no matter WHAT the moisture level, it said 99%. Totally unable to detect, my T is happy as a clam and I add moisture based on instinct
