Hi everyone,

I’ve bred Latrodectus and Loxosceles species so far but would like to try some Sparassids now. I do not have any pairs at the moment but might soon. I think I have an idea how to do it at least.

I’ve seen people introduce the pair into a breeding tub/ enclosure. I’ve also seen people introduce the male in with the female. Is there any advice regarding the strategies?

Also, are the females and males fairly receptive to each other usually? Is there a behavior that they do when they are interested and acknowledge the presence of one another?

Does mating usually occur after a long or short period of time?

Thanks.

Something I'm very curious about too. We're up to our eyeballs in Huntsman but I'm clueless about their breeding habits. The fact they are completely nocturnal as a rule and probably highly sensitive to any light source - in even very dim light the adults have a tendency to freeze in place, only juveniles are seen roaming about - doesn't help finding out their secrets.
Has anyone ever seen adults of either sex out roaming? It's always blitz or parked.

I think overall sparassids are reasonably tolerant of each other (freak out and run away rather than bite). Make sure everyone is well fed and then introduce the male to the female's enclosure. If possible you'll want them to have lots of extra space. I think the mating process takes a while, but they get down to it pretty quickly. @Philth would know more on this than I would though.
