Is there a for sure sign to tell if a female huntsman has matured? (Specifically Barylestis scutatus/Cameroon Crab Spider) Out of the 8 new we got, only 1 appears to be male and he has already matured so I don’t want him to die before any of the females are matured. But I don’t want to put him in with a female before she is mature. Any advice?

Darned good question. Ideally, being able to tell just from in the wild observation without capture and close inspection. Hoping somebody can contribute here.

Hi

What i saw is that adult huntsman maintain a better diet.
Subadult feast crazy and appear fat while adult huntsman keep a normal abdomen.
This is the indicator working best for me. Ofc an adult can be pumped aswell.

Why not give it a try?
Usually works for me, even piloctenus (pretty agressive) hit the male twice and left him aside. Clear sign that she's not adult.
Noone got harmed.

Regards

You can add to this, they are active at night. Quite likely if there is any ambient light putting them together will result in rejection.
