this picture has been floating around the net for a long time now, i even encountered it at a gaming forum. i cant find the actual pic anymore and wondered if anyone here has it or knows where i can find it.
its the pic of the huntsman hiding behind a small blue wall clock, and all you see are its legs sticking out.

LOL, it was a huge fad in LUE(Life, Universe and Everything), now a private forum in gamefaqs. Google the picture using the words "clock spider". I'm curious, why would you want that picture?

Whoa, I love spiders and all but that would freak me out... looks like it's just lying in wait for some food... cool pic tho.

Yep, that is an eery picture. I remember seeing that picture for the first time years ago on LUE. As JohnxII mentioned, it's a huge fad there.

That's a large spider, how big do you think its legspan is?

Where are those guys from?

First time I've seen that pic. That thing is monstrous! Not being very good at the ID game, anyone know what it is?

It's an australian huntsman spider.

The original series of three pics was first posted by Kaji on the forums at www.somethingawful.com in October of 02, and was then photoshopped extensively into various incarnations.

There is a bit of scale in the picture, so we can estimate the legspan of the spider. In pic two of the sequence, we can clearly see the screw that the clock hung from. holding the screw in the wall is an "easy-anchor", with a diameter of about half an inch, which looks to be the same size of the spider's carapace. If my calculations are correct, the spider in the pic has about a 6 inch legspan. That's a good size spider to find in your house.

These are definately the largest spiders we get locally, but also probably the most docile. They are a common house visitor, and I for one welcome them sharing my space.

Does anyone have any idea how much a spider of this size would eat? Someone on another forum asked how many cockroaches and other insects their house huntsman would eat... and who else would know better how much spiders eat than you guys, that have to feed you pet ones :)
