So as I slowly migrate out of the hobby of herps, and more into inverts, I ended up with a 4'x2' glass tank that needed to be used or sold. And considering the price tag I paid for it, I wanted to keep it:) So I went about customizing it.

It started as a double sliding screen top glass cage essentially. I decided that not only was one big cage that size too much for any tarantula, but the screen top needed to go as well.

After removing all the rails, and track, I used silicone to divide the tank into three sections. The two side sections I planned on using for large arboreals, or big deep burrowers. And the larger, center section was to be used for my wifes Blondi when we got her one (which we have now). I used 1/4" thick plastic to divide the sections for a few reasons. It was more sturdy, (since the rails on top I removed offered structural support for the tank), they wouldn't bow with lots of dirt, and I had it lying around from my burmese tank build (which is pictured in the background of a few of the below pics).

I decided to go with .09" plastic for the tops, and essentially used Robc's tank top build videos to be my direction I wanted to go.

See below for the almost finished product :)

Now because my design was different, and there were no rails to "secure" the lids down with, I had to fab up a different style of lock for the lid's. (residential electricians might recognize the stuff used to make the locks:))

As you can see, the locks are cemented to the front glass and the little tab slides over the door to hold it down. The added benefit of this design too is the play in the door going up and down between the lock can be adjusted simply by loosening or tightening the screw from the bottom.

I have a conundrum though.... My wifes Blondi is happily in another enclosure... What am I to fill this monster with???? :8o

Yeah a parahybana would be cool in the middle, and two monster arboreals on the sides!!! (I vote pokies, ornata and regalis ;) )

Maybe go with an African theme- An OBT on one end, a Stromatopelma calceatum on the other and a King Baboon in the middle. :)

I might put my LP in the middle. I have an S cal and an OBT.... but those side tanks are HUGE.... They are big enough for 8-9" arboreals... Wish my rufilata was all grown up :/

I have a 55 and I split it 4 ways but I laid the tank on it's side to have side access because all four are for terrestrials. I still have the trim so it's pretty easy for me to put hinges on and have an upper 3/4 door similar to what you built. Just a thought.

Awesome cage! Looks like it's gonna turn out great!

Nice Albino burm as well. How big is it? Also, I couldn't help but ask how big is that tub you're using as it's waterdish and where did you get it? Thanks, sorry for side-tracking though.

Really outstanding work on the cage. I can't wait to see the finished product.

She's about 8 foot. Just a baby ;) I should have taken the pic right after I fed her today :)

The water dish is just the litter box for cats. It's good for holding lots of water. Unfortunately, I haven't secured it down in a frame yet and she has knocked it over once or twice :wall: :wall: Big mess....

Thanks for all the kudos :)

Awesome stuff. I have a 11-12 foot Albino Labyrinth male that could meet her in the future  Too bad we don't live closer to each other.

Oh I know what you mean! When they tip it over it's a pain in the a$$. Two more questions; where'd you get such a large slab of corkbark? Also, neat cage, did you make it?

The corkbark I bought from a LPS.

Yes, I made the tank. I made two of them actually. I had a large male that I was going to breed her with, but I let him go to another breeder and the tank went with him.

My wife cleaning out the tank when I had two of them :)

Hah, I'm pretty much doing the opposite.
While inverts themselves cost much more when you get lots of them... the up keep and cost of feeding inverts is WAY lower than feeding any of the Tegu's or Burms I've had...
