How to get tarantula to drink?

So I have a freshly molted P. Regalis (more like a week at this point) who I haven't seen drink since she molted. I'm worried, as her abdomen is tiny, and she just sits there in her hide all day. Is there anything I can do?

I'm sure she's fine. Do you watch her 24/7? Are you positive she hasn't snuck out to take a sip?

She sits on my nightstand, where the only times I don't see her is when I'm eating or when I'm asleep. (being on break rules)

Make sure she has a clean water dish available and she'll drink when she need to. The most likely time for them to drink is while you're asleep so there's a very good chance you won't see her do it.

How do you make your dog drink? You don't. Just provide a full water dish and let the spider do what it needs to.

If the Theraphosidae have access to a full water dish (which i'm sure you have provided) IMO there's no problem, man. I know what you mean, eh, but they know best. I usually spot my T's take a good drink every here and then.

With that said, you can drop with a plastic pipette few drops of water in the web/hide, that wouldn't hurt.

A poecilotheria rarely use a waterbowl. Mist in there in the evening and mist thouroghly so there is wet all over. Do it in the evening. If she does not drink that evening she is not thirsty. Do it 2 times a week and you have a happy T. It is also good to keep the humidity up. I spray mine atleast 30 seconds each enclosure.

Try feeding her after a couple weeks and she'll likely go after the feeder with gusto. Aside that: What the others said - chances are she drank while you weren't watching. Most T's do.

In 4 years I have never seen any of my tarantulas drink except for 2 times I caught one in the middle of the night as she was crouching down getting the last few drops inside of her dish. I come in to empty dishes a lot, so I know they are drinking. They do take a while to eat or drink but all you can do is keep providing food and water. She won't commit suicide, she's just resting. ;)

You cannot "force" a T to drink. Even on its death bed the most you could do would be provide a few drops with an eyedropper and hope for the best. But in your case just provide a dish of fresh water and she'll find it if she needs it. Post a picture of her and the enclosure to give everyone a sense of how its set up.

There's a thing i'm 100% sure about. Theraphosidae knows well where the water dish is. The important thing is to have that always full.

So she drank last night, I set up one of my cameras over her tank, and she did drink from some of the water I dropped in using a pipette.

Ive never seen my P.metallica or P.ornata use their water dish. I just mist it really good twice a week, and spary some on the entrance to their burrows. And , i am a nocturnal human, so ive seen most of mine drink from water dish, but never my Pokeys.

You are very right about poecilotheria, that is very rare to see them drink from a dish. A good long spray in there and they will drink if thirsty. I only use waterdish when i have cooling/winter periods where there is almost no rain.

Interesting that this thread popped up today. I came home from work earlier and for the first time ever saw my Avic at her water dish. I'm sure she's been there before but I think she's very sneaky about it.

I see my Poecs drink, all 13 species of them. Most of them don't have enough silk to hold droplets of water from misting. I've got a row across the top of some shelf units of a couple dozen regalis and fasciata in big deli cups; when I water them every week or so, most are drinking from their bowls within minutes. Even if you're up at night, are you spending most of your time at home watching your spiders? (if so, you need more to do). If you're not watching your spiders 24/7, you can't say for certain what they are or aren't doing. I have water bowls in all my Poec cages, from 2nd instar and up.

If they run to the water dish right when u water , chances are they are dehydrated and your not keeping it humid enuff, id say.
