I am wondering if the s'lings will find food that is left for them in the bottom of their enclosure? Or do I need to give the preysomething they can climb up? I have fake plants that the t's are hanging out in but the crickets can not get up there. Can anyone help with this delema? I just got these 2 babies 2 days ago and they are my first arboreals.

If they have webbed you can also place them on the web they are on I do that with my Versicolor and it finds it.

How are the fake plants attached, are they stuck into the substrate? If so, the crickets can climb up them.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it, the T will find the cricket. You'll find that the T will sometimes hang out on the side of the container near the substrate waiting to pounce on whatever walks by.

I have always just tossed the crickets in, my slings and older T's have always been able to find their food.

My Avic. avic. is about 2" as it molted today and it is living in a tall deli container. The fake plants are from top to bottom of container, the same is true of the Avic. versicolor, however that one is only about 1/2 in.

Yes, arboreal or not, they are very sensitive to detecting food within their area. If they're looking for food and it's nearby, they'll find it.

Yes, in my experience, the information above are very accurate. I'm currently trying to powerfeed my a.versicolor, and it helps if you pry the cricket over to him, then he'll just pounce on him. :)

The other day, I pushed the cricket towards him, and the cricket jumped really high, and in that time, my avic ran over, jumped and catched him. Very entertaining, currently my favourite species.

Have fun! :)

I'll sometimes cut off all the crickets legs, then put it in the web.
That way it still moves around, kinda, but can't get out of the web.
I hate it when it falls to the floor, and I have to mess up the T's web to fetch it out. And also if the T doesn't get it off the substrate, it grows mold that has to be removed.

Is it a good idea to try flies for sling-feeding? I don't really wanna get into microcrickets since they die faster than I can spell pronounciation, and freezing things and prying bodyparts from them isn't exactly my cup of tea, I've found out.

i lke to keep my avic slings in as bare a tank as possiblem so just a thin layer of vermicullite on the floor and a thin branch for them to climb, not cork bark as it has too many nooks and takes a lot of space.

this way, i can keep the tank clean easier and reduce the liklihood of mites as well as making it quite easy for them to find the circkets.

i don't think you'll have to worry too much, when they are hungry enough they'll find them. sometimes my versicolour leaps on the cricket the moment i throw it in there.

I usually destroy the cricket and put it in the web. I come back a few hours later and find a very fat spider:} .
