Can someone explain me in details how to do it? I have got a female and male wolf spider (Arctosa maculata) caught wild, they've been with me for around 2 weeks.what I tried was:I feed them both before mating then after a few hours I put a male in females enclosure and he runs around until female notices him and starting running before him to attack him and then I just save the poor guy and get him out of there...tried this 3 times and every single time failed...What should I do? o_O

ALSO: I dont think female is gravid because her abdomen is pretty small...I also have another wild caught female which layed an egg sac just yesterday and her abdomen was huge before laying an egg sac

Female might not be mature. That or the male could be penultimate and just look mature. I also don't know how much space Arctosa need for the male to safely approach the female.

Female definitely is a mature and as far as I know male seems like a mature too but don't know if he is penultimate...what would you do? Should I try putting them in a same containter with a barrier between them for 1-2 days?

Hmmm, that makes it a bit trickier then. I would probably try putting the male in her enclosure in a second container like you said to give them time to adjust and see what happens then. You could also just have a female that mated right before you caught her, so she hasn't swollen up with eggs yet.

I have put female in one larger container and inside that container I put another smaller plastic container with a male inside it,its visible so they can see each other or sense idek...will see if they are willing to breed tomorrow

Did you end up having any luck with this? I also have a few females and a male, also wild caught, and I'm interested in breeding them. Will wild caught spiders o my breed at a certain time of year or will they breed any old time?

Did you get this to work? I would have thought putting them in the same enclosure, even though separate, would have made them really anxious.

I have four mature and four little wild caught, mine are just the little Rustic Wolf Spider. But I've found each takes at least a week or two to adjust to their new enclosures (which are big, have hides and plants and coco bark and all the stuff they need) before they'll even eat reliably/stop trying to climb out/hide; basically until they're cool with me moving the container or replacing water or feeding them, etc. Maybe it just hadn't been long enough for them to adjust yet?

Anyway, please post a follow up if you can with vme everything you learned, it'd be great to hear about what worked & what didn't.

Hello there, well I had 3 female wolf spiders at the time I posted this,I tried to mate all three of them by just putting a male in their enclosure which ended pretty bad(two of them ate males while the third female wasn't interested at all) and then after a month all three made a burrow and layed an egg sac.So it seems that all three females I found in wild have already mate and that was the reason why they refused to mate. When all of the spiders hatched from all 3 females I took around 10 little spiders and put them in different enclosures, and I released all others.

Can you please update me how the 10 spiderlings did in captivity? Thank you!
