I was cleaning out the pot of a palm tree that had died. In the process i captured around 15 or 20 isopods. I put them in a container with damp peat and vermiculite. I have been feeding them fish flakes. I noticed a cottony white mold build up which was gone in about 3 days. Here's my question, how do i get them to breed? How long does it take to set up a viable colony? Thanks.

My patented method for breeding isopods is as follows:

1. Get isopods.
2. Put isopods in a container with food.
3. ???????
4. Profit?

I accually just collect them from outside and put about 10-15 in a 2.5 gallon tank with my L. parahybana and I look on the side of the glass in the substrate there are babies everywhere! I didnt even try to breed them and I never knew how... I guess just throw them in some dirt and let them eat roaches remains. LOL

I agree with the above.

"Just add dirt!"

But on a more serious note (not that that isn't) I always keep lots of moist decaying oak leaves on the surface and I throw in some fresh greens once every couple weeks. The oak leaves are always vanishing and they nibble on the greens too. I think they do best on the oak leaves but I'm sure you could feed them virtually anything and get lots of babies!

My best results were:
organic potting soil
regular misting
added dry oak leaves/ rotten wood
carrots or firm squash pieces
