Ah, sweet failure! If it were not for ye, I would smugly go through life learning nothing. Lesson #1: Be patient! Must...resist...urge...to...sift...through...substrate. This guy's pupal cell was destroyed by me. I was still excited to see the 1st one emerge, though I wish I'd let it be.

it still lives? if so not all is lost the damage appears to be superficial to the wing casing and could very wiell give you another generation from it :)

Elytra are over-rated anyway :p

Heh.

Even if his Elytra are a bit deformed, I still think that Dynastes beetle faces are some of the cutest things on Earth.

And yeah, if you can get a female out okay, then you can try again.

aw bummer, i did the same thing with a jeweled something or other flower beetle. i thought they were all dead! so i started digging and felt a very distinctive crunch. the little guy made it fine with busted up elytra, an lived about the normal amount of time

Yeah, he's otherwise fine but a little weak. I did the same thing to a female...I hope she makes it out OK. 2 more grubs to go...

Sorry to hear that Zonbonzovi, i'm waiting patiently and disturb the grubs not unless i need to do a substrate change. I should have a good number of adults by springtime.
Any luck on granti?

Thanks, balam. Good luck with yours. I'm armed with much more knowledge than when I originally bought the L1 grubs. Hoping to find some granti in AZ next month.
