Looks like the snake is in pre shed, so after its shed its probably byebye hamster. However, a captive snake get stressed easily with a live prey in the cage 24/7 so who knows. Besides a cornered rodent is dangerous to any snake so the hamster might just bite back and the story ends with a dead snake.

The fact that the snake is currently about to shed might have something to do with it

Looks like the snake is getting ready to shed...so of course it wont eat. Very dangerous for the snake if you ask me.

Isn't that hamster a little big for the snake too?

I don't know how furry hamsters are but I think that one looks mighty big for that little snake head..

Although not common for rat snakes, it is possible that he has become imprinted on whatever the frozen species was and will not recognize the hamster as food. As I said, not a common thing to happen with ratsnakes, which are somewhat general in their food preferences, but it could happen.

Cheers,
Dave

That snake is definitely in pre-shed. If you look at the eye, it is glazed over and opaque.

I agree. I'd be mad if I later found out that the snake was injured. I've been told by a veterinarian that it's not uncommon.

I have seen too many instances where people swear up and down that the snake and rodent are "friends" that is until the rodent attacks the snake and causes irreperable damage and possibly death. People do not house Rats, hamsters or anything of the such with your reptiles!
