How many legs can they lose and survive?

Please enlighten me if this has been done before (and I'm certain it has because it's just such an obvious question). I couldn't find anything relevant though.

The title says it all besides that I mean "in captivity". So if 0 legs, 2 palps and mashed food can keep them alive then that's a fair answer.

What's the the record of lost legs you've wittnessed? Did the T make it?

I had a b. albopilosum that lost three legs. It is fine now. It is a lot smaller than my others that came from the same sac. It was a bit sluggish and it took two molts for the three legs to regenerate.

There is a passage in the tarantula keeper's guide of a tarantula that had no legs and they fed it mush, I couldn't find the passage. It was in one of the two Barron's books.

I had a B. smithi that had lost 2 legs before i bought it, lost one more after i bought it, molted out and had 5 full legs, and 3 thin ones.. broke the front 2 back of less than a day after molting.. then survived until the next molt, and the next, and now has all 8 legs again, just didn't grow as much with the molts that it had to regenerate legs.. i guess more of the growth went into the legs than the body.
stunted, but 8 legged and feeding like crazy now.. wasnt all that viscious before, but now will jump half the length of the enclosure to grab a cricket.

OK, p. 61, Tarantulas and other Arachnids (Barrons). In the last century a scientist removed all the legs and kept the t. on a pedestal and handfed the t. It did shed and gained a set of little legs....

That's the short of it...

All of 'em.
Read "The Tarantula" by William Baerg.
There's a reprint around now, so it's probably not difficult to acquire.
