Hi,

I'm thinking about breeding the O. philippinus. How long does it take for them to mate to each other?

I've read the Poecilotheria spp. take about sometimes hours to mate. I'm hoping that is not the case for the O. philippinus...

Well, if you are talking about the courtship, in a lot of T´s it can take quite a lot. Usually arboreal T´s have longer courtship in contrast to terrestrial ones.

I don´t have specific info regarding Orphnaecus, but I would bet that their courtship is in the quick side of the scale (something around 10-15 minutes maybe?. However, copual is quite fast in most species, so be ready to act in case the female decides to use the male as a protein source for the eggs...

Well, IME arboreals, once they locate one another, tend to pair easily and quickly....pokies, tap a lot right away and often pair quickly...Avics pair quickly...Tappies and Psalmos may be the quickest pairing generas there are....most asian arboreals get right down as well, with just a few exceptions...and those tend to be aggressive to males (like the violaceopes).

Terrestrials on the other hand, take longer often to locate one another and while many do pair quickly, others like the GBB for example....have extremely long courtship....we are talking many hours or even days before they actually pair...others like rose hairs do best when specific long term scenarios, like cooling periods, are given.

Thanks for correcting me, seems that I´ve got things understood upside-down. Regards!!! ;)

Thank you very much for the detailed replies, guys. I guess I'll see what's going to happen with my O. philippinus when it comes to mating.
