How long does it take a sling to molt?

now I’m curious guys, not asking how long it takes a sling to start molting, what I’m asking is, as soon as the sling begins the molting process, how long does it take? I ask this because my little gbb hasn’t started molting yet but when he does, just curious how long it will approximately take ;)

It depends on many factors, how well fed it was before the molt, the size, temperature of the room, etc. But for a small sling it shouldn't take more than a couple hours.

Molt times are not an exact science... as Phormic said, many factors contribute. They can also take a bit of time to actually begin molting once they have flipped over. What you want to see is progress... even slow, slight progress. So once the T flips, watch for signs that the carapace has opened. Once the carapace has opened, things should steadily progress over (in general) a few hours for a smaller sling.

i have never caught the whole process to watch bit i personally have never seen one take more than a few minutes and there have been a couple times when i think i caught it fairly early on. Even one of my subadults i saw flipped but not started yet was done within an hour or two when i got another chance to check on it.

I believe you have been misinformed based on Phormic's response.

My impression is you are asking about the time of the molt itself, not the entire molt cycle. The temperature and how well fed your T was before the molt have little to do w/the speed of the molt itself.

The molt itself can be as short as an hour or less in sling cases. The larger the T, the longer it takes, that's what we know.

My Lasiodora parahybana sling molted in under ten minutes a couple days ago. I was keeping an eye on it because I was expecting it to molt any time, and I left it alone for a few minutes while I went to another room. When I came back not even ten minutes later, it had already molted and was stretching its legs. As if it was waiting for me to leave. :banghead:
Just under .5" DLS at the time.

Yo Viper, you are a very informative person and I greatly appreciate you giving some tips on your knowledge of owning T’s on this and my other post! :)
