How long does it take before inbreeding causes the roaches to become weak and less fertile?

You might want to check out roachforum.com There are some very helpful folks on that site.

We have a B. lateris colony and noticed roach die-off after 6 months, at which time we renewed the bloodlines.

This topic comes up often enough where it gets repetitive, fyi. Must be posted in this forum at least 6 other times in recent months.

Roaches do not require new bloodlines. If there is any kind of weakness or die-off it is from some other husbandry issue, not genetics. I have had colonies go 10 years without new 'blood' and they remain in good condition. Many species of roaches in culture in the USA originated from stock imported over 40 years ago, so even if you buy some from someone else they are still from the same original group and not wild caught imports.
