Fruit Flies are OK until they get large enough to tackle leaf hoppers, small crickets, and other flies and things. Baby Northern Black Widows seem afraid of ants more than southen and western. I use fruit flies and then leaf hoppers if I can catch them. I feed the spiderlings as a group until after a few molts when I start see them fighting or cannibalizing, picking out some favorites based on size, growth, and any special traits like coloring or behaviours. The ones I don't keep I try to release where they came from, Northerns in the mixed forests or meadow near tree line, southerns on a rocky hill side or cemetery near a tree line, or westerns under a bridge or rocky hill side, all areas with good drainage that won't get flooded.

That was a masterfully executed video, friend; you know those spiders well.
