Hi y'all

While searching for info about hissinh'g roaches care, Ive read that they needed a lot of humidity and needed to eat a lot of protein. I did that, noticed that I had a high death rate until I asked a local breeder that told me to keep them dry and not give too much protein since they aren't able to excrete the excess of protein. Since then, my colony is doing super fine.

Im wondering if they are doing better because they finally have settled in or because the husbandry is better. How do you care for these Gromphadorhina ?

Dry in a bare bottom bin. Lids cut and screened. Eggcrate for harborage. A dish for carrots and one for fish pellets. Works like a charm.

Thank you ! Do you think I could offer them dog food instead of fish pellets ?

I'm kind of in a dilemma here. I'm afraid they'll lack protein if I don't add but I'm also afraid the death rates goes up again if protein is added :/

I know people do. Some use dog food or cat food. I have had great luck with pond fish pellets so i continue to feed that.

Ive got mine in a viv 30x30x45, decent depth of substrate - lots of bark / cork for them and a exo terra 3d background - I put food on branches and the young ones go climbing.

The adults go from high point to high point, apart from the dominant one - who seems to sit there like a pompous dictator on a big piece of silver berch bark, every time someone comes near his "spot" he gets aggressive.

In the day, they are all buried under the leaves and soil. You'd think the viv was empty

At night, its like NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

I use apples, carrots, and fish flakes, and just have egg crates and a piece of cork round that the food goes on.
