How do I take green bottle flies out of a container without them escaping? I don't want to put them in the fridge along with my food, so is there any other way? Thanks.

First, what container do you have?
Second, how many flies do you have?
Third, just curious what are you doing with the flies?

The link mentioned in this thread gives instructions for invertebrate anesthesia!

Sorry I haven't replied in a while... I'm going to feed them to my Phidippus Regius. I have about 50 crammed in a small deli cup (not my fault.) I got them from Josh's Frogs.

The way that I wrangle my fruit flies is that have a straw stuck into the lid, that way I can shake them out to feed my slings and then plug it with a ball of cotton when I'm done. Maybe something similar could be rigged?

So I used to do a combination of things for when I had manitds......fridge really does help but my partner said 'hell no' so there went that.

I used a 32oz deli cup and then put a pop sock over the open end (ask Mrs permission 1st, I learned the hard way ).
I secured the pop sock round the top of the deli cup with an elastic band (I used a hairband....again should have asked permission first).
Cut the toes out the other end and clip it closed.

When I needed a couple I'd just unclip the end, tongs through the opening and grab a couple.
