i want to breed an adult pair of c. cranwellii x c. ornata, i know about putting them though an estavation period before breeding, and that you need to simulate rain for 6 hours a day for 3 days to get them to copulate, my only problem is how do i go about doing that? they need to be in a tank with 1" of water and being "rained" on , but i don't want them to drown , any ideas? maybe i can somehow use a filter to cycle the water or a bucket with holes in the bottom and a filter/pump? any help appreciated, thanks. Most the ones I have seen have had either holes for drainage in the tank such as in a dart frog tank or people have used large sterilites and drilled holes in the bottom.

Plastic laundry tubs (aka slop sinks, janitor sinks) work well. All you have to do is build the upper part of the chamber with acrylic (or glass) and build a sprinkler head into the top. You can either connect the drain to your sewer system or, if you are "raining" less than 5 gallons at a time just use a 5 gal. bucket below the drain. Of course, you can also make a closed system where the water recirculates by using a pump in the bucket and connecting it to the sprinkler head.

There are many ways to do it and many websites giving instructions on a variety of designs. A very simple and effective one can be found at: http://derekb15.tripod.com/tropicaltreasures/id13.html

Heh. Have fun doing this breeding project. When you get tadpoles I will be happy to take some off your hands since you will end up with way over 1000.

Heres what I would do. Get a large tank or sterilite, fill it with around 2-3 inches of water, then get a high powered submersible pump, get it rigged up to a piece of perforated PVC and watch it work.

It should cost around $30 total.

By the way, I would pick up a copy of Philippe de Vosjolis book on this subject. Very thin, but very thick you must know.

This project will require around 400 gallons of water, and the children will need to be monitored carefully. Plan ahead for this one.

hey thanks guys, that link was very helpful i e-mailed the webmaster of that site and he e-mailed me on how to construct it so it cycles for me, and how i should make it for pacmans, yeah scorpio i have read that they can have up to 2000 babys i definetly will make sure i'm ready before i attempt too and make sure i have some places to sell large quanitys for cheap, i think if it does happen though as cruel as it may sound i may let some eat each other, even though i won't be able to help it anyhow, housing 2000 and feeding that many would be insane lol.
