How can I tell if my T's hide spot is too small for it

Ok so I have a long way to go before I need to upgrade to a hollow trunk or Terra cotta pot for my 1" Boehmei sling but would like to gain a little more knowledge about their safe house.

I figured I would get some opinions. Specialy when they do that gogo gadget retract legs trick and poof they look small enough to fit into a sewing thimble.

How can you tell if the hide spot they use has become too small for them to live/hide in? is there a certain behavior I should watch for?

Thanks

If they don't fit in it then it's probably too small. I'd just get something bigger than you need and they'll move the substrate around to their liking.

Measure or guess the size of the T and size the hide appropriately. Too big is better than too small to an extent.

Used to give my slings hides, and one day I was sure my B. Smithi sling had escaped, couldnt find it anywhere...after a good 15mins of inspecting the cork bark hide I had given it, I noticed a tiny crack, which looked impossible, even for a sling, to squeeze into. After a further 30mins of picking the cork bark to bits with a pair of tweezers, i managed to dig out the little bundle of joy...lesson learned! No more hides for slings lol

Try using small vials with a little substrate covering about a 1/4 of the circumference pack down and stick into the substrate in the enclosure. That's what I use for my 1"ish sling and he seems to love it.

all of the Brachy's I have had in the past never used the hide as slings, they burrowed. I have used film vials cut in half vertically before (thoroughly washed of course). now I have an over sized fake leaf and the end up webbing it to the size of the enclosure and burrowing.
