Hi.
I just found out that one of my hottentotta trilineata has escaped from his tank :? Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on spotting the guy? I´ve been running around the whole night with UV-lights and nothing. 8hours now i have looked and if i don´t find it soon it´s time to take the old painless from the closet (vacuum). I have almost emptied the room where my tanks are and went through it all. Those are so small fraggers that it just makes the task more difficult

Good luck...u need it...:D
maybe the fella got eaten...?
Lol, i know :} Unless my dog ate it i don´t think so. The other tanks are escape-safe (i´d like to think that atleast) so they couldn´t have eaten it. Good thing is that i have all those in 1 big room, bad thing is that last time i´ve seen it was yesterday night (i always like to check on them) and they can crawl beneath the doors. Man this sucks :wall: Just happy it wasn´t L. Quinquestriatus, it´s fast, aggressive and nasty

Whats the significance of the venom on the one that escaped, that should be one of your BIGGEST concerns!

Well that does seem chancie! I would definently go for the vaccume if all else fails within an extended period of time, was it male or female? Because if it was female and possibly pregnant and it escapes OUTSIDE! Well your in for a whole new world of hurt. Oh and I see you live in Chicago. Which area?

Yup. Tried to search the dark places etc. almost emptied the whole room and even introduced mr.vacuum and still no sightings. Two of us searched the whole night with uv-lights and now at daytime with bad curtains they are of no use. The really lame thing is that it could have crawled beneath the doors and could be almost anywhere (the doors inside the house have a pretty decent opening between the door and the floor but the outer door is luckily pretty sealed). Obviously it climbed on the silicon edges and got away from the top somehow or then it learned the great art of magics. :8o
Nevertheless i think i´ve learned my lesson and hopefully i´ll find it soon because i could reeeeally use some sleep now {D

Damn. Still haven´t found the bugger. At night i suppose it´ll be much easier because now i have turned the house upsde down and no sign of it. I know they are small but..! :?
I have to take a few hours nap and then continue. Wonder if these are sensitive to any chemicals? Some scent that could lure or irritate them out of their hiding places. I know this is wishful thinking but i´m starting to get very desperate

Yeah good luck finding it. Maybe next time you should think about getting a tank cover for all your enclosures. As far as it giving birth and causing an outbreak, no I don't think so. If it were to give birth I don't think the conditions would be right for the scorplings to live on. Plus this spp can live communally so you wouldn't have needed to seperate them. Well as long as you learn from your mistakes.

try microwaving a damp towel and putting it in the middle of the floor. the folds and heat and humidity should atract it

also might not be a terrible idea to place your bed's legs(if it has any) in glasses to make them climb-proof.

Thx guys.
Giving a try for the towel idea which sounds good. Don´t have much shoes thanks to my dog but have to check those i have thoroughly. The bed thing sucks ´cause i sleep on the floor (works wonders on my back). I have a few days left to hunt it,then it´s back to work for me.
I´m starting to believe that my dog ate it or something because i constantly check the apartment with UV-lamps and nothing. I haven´t got that much furniture here either so it´s a bit easier. Although i won´t let my guard down and if it´s still here alive it should start moving around when it gets dark. Atleast that´s what they do on the terrariums.
I had a tank cover but it was a bit poor and not sufficient enough. It went fine for a week and now i got my custom made terrariums and it got away 1 day before they arrived. Yes, i indeed learned from my mistake and hopefully i´d find the fellow alive somewhere soon.
Funny, i always thought i´d die in a car accident.. {D

Ha! Well where do you live? I thought they didn't allow cats or dogs in apartments?

Lol! If i´d know about those extractors, i would have let all my scorpions roam freely here :D
I live in Sweden. Dogs and cats are ok here but i don´t think that my neighbours would like my other pets ;) Atleast not now
