This has all happened over the course of a week. I’ve lost two BCI’s. Unfortunately, they didn’t show hardly any sign at all that something was wrong. But now, two more have become very lethargic, have gone off feed (visibly), and one appears to have lost some equilibrium at times. I’m getting her into the vet ASAP. I’m really starting to get scared.
Almost a year ago I took in a sick BCI. I should have known better. This was the first one to die. I had him checked out and we got his respiratory infection under control. He started to gain weight and was looking good. I took him off quarantine after about 5 months. I bred him with a female who now appears to be gravid, but now I’m starting to worry that her swell could be her internal tissues. She appears a bit lethargic, but other than that is doing well.
I had one mite infestation, which I promptly conquered. That may have been one too many, though, with IBD. Now my Guyanan is off feed and lethargic. I am VERY UPSET right now. If I were the cussing type, I’d be doing that a lot right now. At myself. I am praying now that it doesn’t get to my Burm or my Ball Pythons. I’ve moved them away from the others, but a small bit of the previous mite infestation hit them as well. I guess I’m just posting for some support. If you need to cuss me out, you can do that too. :(

I know nothing of this, as I have never dealt with sick snakes. But I had 2 people say it sounds like IBD (Inconclusive Body Disease). And ive also been told that there is nothing you can do, except to quarintine and/or put the snake down.
I wont get into all of that, b/c I know nothing of it as I stated..but it gives you an idea, and something to research. I recommend another vet visit for sure to rule out that possiblity, but apparently, from what ive been told, autopsy is the only way to diagnose this.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm certainly going to stay in denial until I know for sure, but I'm definately thinking its IBD. :wall:

I wish you and your snakes the best. Have them checked out for parasites, could be many things. I hope you get the answer your looking for, but have a positive outcome :)

Keep us updated

Sounds like it could be IBD just because they went for so long without showing any symptoms. I hope that's not what it is though. It must be so devastating to lose these guys.

For now, just be super careful about quarantine measures. Wear latex gloves in between different animals. Even if the blood work comes back showing they're in the clear, it would be a good idea to keep them in quarantine all over again for one full year.

Best of luck to you.

You mentioned mite infestation.Sadly, the problem with these vile parasites,is not just that they suck the snakes blood, but they also act as vectors for all manner of bacterial and viral infection.I know this from bitter personal experience.Just keep my fingers crossed for your snakes, bro and wish you the best outcome.
