WOW....Today I had to transfer 2 P. murinus into their new homes today and would you figure both of them got loose on me!!
I took the gentle approach to catch them and used a piece of wod and a cup, but now I know when they say "Quick" means super fast....but I think the only bad thing that happened was that one of the Baboons lose a leg, but their only inchers so in no time itll grow back :)

Or it could die.

I have lost a couple tarantulas to lost limbs.

I would do a search on making an ICU unit for your spider.

Normally if they lose legs they will be ok when they molt again they will get the leg back . It will die most likely if there is something else wrong but not over losing a leg.

Yup, that's exactly how people get tagged...the pet rock goes into hyperdrive. T's are cool, their agility and speed in the first foot or two is second to none. If they were our size, our ancestors would never have made it. Nice turn of events that as atmospheric oxygen concentrations dropped, so did the size of Arthropods. Their open circulatory system probably kept us from extiction.

Big Dragonfly is right. It depends on where the break in the leg is, if it at the carapace it will usually be able to seal up the leak. But if the leg isn't torn at a joint, it has the possibility of bleeding to death. That is if you don't get to it first and seal the leak.

But I'm sorry to hear about the escape and the lost leg. I'm glad the T seems to be ok.

Oh don't I KNOW how fast they can be! Last year, when I got my very first usambara, who was about 2 inches at the time, out of his shipping container and moved him to his large, round Tupperware container, he sped around in circles so fast, it shocked me! Luckily, I got the lid on before he could escape. :)

I named him right away after that little adventure. Believe it or not, I named him PSYCHO of all things! Now, every time I see you post, it reminds me of my own OBT. ;)

Hey how are you? Haven't heard or many people in the U.S. keeping Mombassa Golden Starbursts. Many people call usambara oranges, and reds Pterinochilus murinus, but they are Pterinochilus sp. I seen that happen alot.

What are you talking about? You really need to use better grammar, because I really can't figure out where you are going with that post.

I think that Rick West, amongst others, has come to the conclusion that the "usambara" orange and red are both just color variants of P. murinus. In fact, there might be lots of different color variants of P. murinus. I know that I have read an article on this, but I don't remember where.

Speaking of quick spiders...
I had my entire apartment turned upside down today. A Phoneutria got away when I was packing it, and hide under my terrarium shelf...
After 3 hrs I found it and killed it on sight (I didnt wanna make any more stupid mistakes). Never underestimate speed demons...and these make everything else I ever worked with look like they go in slowmotion. Incredible fast.

i don't think size and speed are any match for a cerebral cortex

I don't know about that just yet. My Usambara is basically an Orange Chicken Thing who hides in her burrow most of the time.

Hey Psycho,
You're welcome again. Sorry about the leg and they just molted about 2 weeks ago.
I told you they are fast lil buggers. Every time I feed and mist at least one escapes. Which is fun because my cats love feeding time since I dump the crics in a icc cream pail and they try to get the crics. My male cat is right there when a OBT escapes to point me in the right direction.

Psycho,
yes, I bred them last year. Mom is a BIG girl, with a bad temper!
I got a nice eggsac from her.
I'm just a hobbyist that got lucky with my first 3 eggsacs, I don't really deal spiders. But when I have slings I will sometimes offer them here. Right now, I've got 3rd instar versicolor slings, but am waiting to find out what my split is with the female's owner. I am T-sitting her, and bred her, but she's not mine
Cheers!
Holley
