"hole" in Rose Hair carapace??

What is the little hole thing that you see in the rose hair carapace? I've noticed it in all the speciman's I've seen in person...

I think what you mean is called the 'Thoracic Groove'. It's where the muscles for the sucking stomach meet I think...

On some species, like Ceratogyrus , they have a 'horn' where the 'hole' is. Some say it's to provide extension area for the sucking stomach muscles.

This is true.
Its also called, dorsal groove, or median foves, or the tergal apodeme.
That area is thickened, trussed, and arched to handle the stress of the contracting muscles. TKG
