I was holding a friend's hognose last night, and it musked on me, then produced a massive amount of spit on my hand. What's gong on? The snake seems otherwise healthy.
It might have gotten scared and was trying a couple of defensive tactics. Musking and vomiting (which could be what it was trying to do) are behaviors that wild Heterodon exhibit when they get defensive. It can be observed when they try to play dead.
