Evidently the egg sac my captive Carolina wolf spider layed was fertile. i saw the female "sunning" the sac just yesterday, so I decided to place a few drops of water at her burrow exit in case she was thirsty. Apparently I disturbed her, because after a few seconds I noticed several spiderlings emerge from the burrow. A couple seemed to drink from the drop of water on their doorstep, while a few others wandered a bit. After 30 minutes there were none to be seen, so I think they headed back to the security of their mother's back. I'm excited, as this is the first time I have had a spider hatch a sac. It's amazing to watch all the little guys move around.
