Hogna carolinensis Feeding Question

I was recently given a wolf spider of the Hogna carolinensis species. I have never kept an araneomorph spider before and I have heard that they require feeding more often than a tarantula. I have already fed her twice. OnE small cricket one day and then another small cricket 3 days later. The small crickets were about the size of her carapace. Is this too much? How frequently should she be fed?
Thanks!

They have a decent metabolism. I feed Lycosa and Hogna continuously every two to three days...
It just kills without eating when there is no hunger, but that happens never😂

Thanks for info! It is much appreciated! I will continue with feeding every 3 days.

Btw, she did indeed eat both of the crickets as if she thought she was a hog and not a Hogna 😂

I'm in the Mojave Desert in California. I'm assuming it was here.
H. carolinensis do indeed live in California... however they have only been documented in southern California to my knowledge... This is most definitely Schizocosa maxima.. They are endemic to California.

I did look up the species you identified. It does indeed seem closer in resemblance. It would appear to either be a Schizocosa maxima or a Schizocosa mccooki (which seems to be more common?). I will definitely have to do a lot more research here. Thank you so much for the good info and point in the right direction!

The Mojave Desert is in Southern California btw lol

My individual state geography knowledge kinda sucks lol... S. maxima tend to be more gold... How large is it?

All good lol
I would say roughly 2 inches DLS. I see. I did notice the maxima is more golden colored, but looked to have a dark ring at the coxa/trochanter and the mccooki did not. This is however from just looking at quick pics, mostly on local wildlife ID websites (not the best for accuracy), so I will defer to your knowledge here and go with it being a maxima.

Not an expert in Californian species... I’d say take what you will from my suggestion and look into other sites like BugGuide and Inaturalist and formulate your own Identification... Good luck! beautiful spider.
