So i had 11 young madagascan hissing cockroaches. they were all in one critter keeper with mesh over the top and the lid. I just looked today and they are all diffrent sizes but none over 2 inches... and there are 14 of them. how big does a hisser have to be to breed? none of these are adults. I'm pretty confused:?

youuu, mis- counted maybe:?
nope I had 8 adults and 11 little ones for sure. i just put them in there new home and i picked them up 1 by 1. and the adults are spereate from the little ones so unles they had babies and the babies got out and squeezed into the younger cage but that seems highly unlikely to me.

maybe they arent hissers? i bought them all and maybe they were lieing to me. are the any other roaches that look like small hissers but stay small? there is one that is noticably bigger than the rest so i'm guessing she is the baby momma. i'll try and get a picture.

the biggest one looks different. maybe i have 2 species in there by mistake? i know at last 1 is a hisser because he came with the adults.

That's not Gromphadorhina portentosa. Since it's the only hisser species I raise i have no clue as to the species.

They all look like Hissers to me, kind of hard to tell from the pic. It would seem odd that he sent you different species, I'm guessing you do have all Hissers. If the adults did have babies, it's not that unlikely that babies moved there if it was kind of close since there is food in there. I use to have them get out often, they can get through really tight places when they are little. I found some in my dubia cage several feet away.

They look just like my sub-adult hissers. What do you guys see that makes them something else?

The thing that I question is the pale area on the sides of the thorax. I'm going to take a look at our juveniles Monday in our hisser colony in the entomology lab.

Some of the nymphs in my colony have those markings.

Could be just a color variation then, my hissers vary in color from pale brown to totally black.

I think the color variation that can pop up in a colony is pretty amazing.
Looking at this picture closer the roach on the right of the three doesn't really look like a hisser from the underside, but it could just be the angle of the photo.
