I've used Flukers Cricket food in the past. Due to the price however I now use a mixture of my own creation that the hissers eat faster than the cricket food.
I get a small bag of both dog and cat food, A box of powdered milk, and a larger sized container of tropical fish flakes.
I then put the dog and cat food [50-50] into a coffee grinder. I also add a heaping tablespoon of the powderd milk, Lastly, I add a tablesoppn of the fish flakes. I then grind this down to a fine powder. I repeat the grinding until I have a couple cups of the mix blended.
I leave the Hissers a dish of this at all times. I also will put out a handfull or so of non-ground dog/cat food.
They seen to go for the ground food faster than the solid. I also feed then Romaine, apples, orange slices, and carrots.

So, to answer the question.. They will eat the prepackaged products, I have found. But at $3,99 for a 13 oz bottle it really isn't worth the expense. With a small bag of both dry food and the fish flakes and powdered milk, It will cost under $12.00 and you'll have ten to twenty times the food.

I got a couple tablespoons of Flukers from a friend a couple days ago to see if the Hissers would go for it. I placed it on a small plastic lid next to the mix that I mentioned above. Well someone must have tried it, but they hardly touched it over the mix. I put about a half a cup into the tote every 4 to 5 days and it is cleaned to the last speck.. I have read a post somewhere in the past that mentions adding some olive oil to the food to get them to eat. I will wait until next Sunday and whatever is left of the Flukers I'll mix with the oil.
I forgot to mention one other item that I put into the ground mix. A tablespoon of brown sugar into 1 cup of the mix..

I will once again sing the praises of unmedicated chick mash. $8 for a 40 pond bag (some feed stores sell it by the pound so you don't need to invest in so much).

Great for cockroaches, and crickets too.

Wade, A question for you. Do you grind up the chick mash or use it right out of the bag? I was thinking about getting a bag before my other items run out and add the mash a little at a time until they are getting mash only.
Just a little add on. The hissers got a orange last night about 8:00pm cut into quarters. At 7:30am there wasn't anything left. And the population had a increase as there was 50-60 new babies.

I generally use it right out of the bag. It's a perfect consistancy for cockroaches as is. Sometimes I do crush it up a little for pinhead crickets, but I'm not certain that they need it.

Roach food.

I start with cat food (high protein) then add dog food. A container of Quaker oats and some fish flake food. Sometime I even add a box of cheerios, they love those things. I have been told be several people not to use powdered milk. They all go in the coffee bean grinder and are ready to go. I got a tip from one of the first people to start making roach food years ago and he said they love a little bit of olive oil on the food. I am going to mix a little in to my next batch after in has been ground up. I just sent someone some food with the lobsters I sold him and he put it in his B. dubia cage. He said they all ran out from the egg crates and polished it off immediatelly.
