well i was planning on buying a frog eyed gecko from ftorres and had the tank all setup then yesterday i went to my local petco and saw crested gecko babies for $50 and asked if i could see one of them.when i took it out it had an awesome color it looks like a cross between a flame and fire crested gecko!!!!! and when i got to hold it he just stuck to my thumb and didnt move and when i tried to put him back i was taking my hand out he jumped back on my thumb!! so cute :) !!!! but now i need your help should i buy the frog eyed gecko or should i buy the friendly baby crested gecko? please give me some advice please and tell me which one i should get really hard for me to decide.:?

hi,

well i would assume you've already got a preference in mind before you even posted, but you're really just looking for someone to confirm that for you one way or the other.

in my book, nothing beats being able to see (and in your case, hold) the animal you're going to purchase to assure yourself of its health condition, size, and personality. Since you did that and were pleased with this lps specimen, the choice seems obvious to me.

in many cases, if all things considered and you still can't make a decision, it might help to consider overall cost. one specimen is local, but the other you'll pay overnight shipping. you might want to consider the age of the specimens as well. a baby might initially require more attention, but you'll get a longer lifespan spent with your pet in the long run and that's worth something.

sorry, just reread OP and missed the Petco part. Might want to really think long and hard about buying from chain stores. :)

cheers.

very true and i thank you for such a quick response and just a tid bit the frog eyed gecko is about 5 inches and the crested gecko is about 2,2.5 inches they are both beautiful geckos thats what makes it so hard!!!!!!! and yes i have been thinking about the whole petco thing but they have these guys in the store all the time for long periods of time. they are in an apporiate habitat but them being on wood chips concerns me. thats the only part that does though. if i get the creted gecko i will most likely buy two there is a beautiful blonde colored one in the same tank so......

well it sounds like you're really into the crested geckos. just remember they are plentiful in the hobby and you can buy them from reputable dealers online (many of them here on AB even) where you know they were well-maintained, etc. Chain stores just continue to prove themselves unworthy of trust and customer loyalty, and I wouldn't even recommend the idea of "rescuing them" simply because they'll be replaced again in a week's time and two more CG will start the whole thing over again.

Maybe keep an eye out for a good deal on here and wait a week to see what happens. . .and in the meantime do some online research about Cresteds to see if you still want them. . .and after a week's time, make your decision. :)
