So for a hobbiest who's interested in breeding H. Vanatoria, what advice would you all have?

Do they need a cooling period, or any other special needs?

Hi Cheshire,

No special conditions are needed at all. Just put a mature male in with a female and they usually get down to it. More often than not the male gets away, although in the last mating i set up the male got eaten, so it's probably a good idea to feed the female up as much as possible. If the female is mature she will produce an eggsac anywhere from a day to a month after. The female will hold the eggsac for about another 4 weeks, after which the spiderlings will start hatching. The spiderlings are difficult to feed as they are so small. I think a mixture of fruitflies and micro-crickets are ok. If you feed fruitflies on there own you end up with very high mortality.

Cheers,

Thanks, man...what about newborn N. Cinerea as feeders for first and second instar heteropoda?

I'm thinking of tackling H. Vanatoria as my first breeding project.

Unfortunately even the newborn Lobster roaches might be a bit too big for Heteropoda spiderlings, althought it's worth giving it a try and seeing how they do.
