Found this scorpion being sold as H. laevigatus, which would be very rare in the US hobby. To me it looked more like H. laoticus. Can anyone positively confirm the ID of this scorpion?

Male Heterometrus Silenus.
They get sold as every kind of Heterometrus, this one is similar to Laoticus due to the decreased granulation on the crapace but it is most defiitely a Silenus Sorry buddy.

Also there's no Laevigatus anymore, they've been split up into, cimrmani and Minotaurus..again.

"He would sell rats arseholes to blind men calling them diamond rings." -of John Boy in Paper Moon.
BTW, Malaysian Blue Claw, a slang or colloquial which isn't a proper name, is also Silenus.

That’s the first time I’ve heard that as a common name. If you’re referring to Malaysian Forest scorpions that’s the common name for Heterometrus Spinifer

Thanks for the correction. Blue Claw as I know it is a local nickname.
Trivia; Spinifer isn't common in the pet trade like Silenus due to much less porous borders and real law enforcement in Malaysia. The rotan is not your friend.

Heterometrus silenus
Heterometrus cyaneus
Heterometrus spinifer

I have seen all 3 listed as "Asian Forest Scorpion" and the bottom two as "Asian Blue Scorpion"

Is this just a case of blatant mislabeling? Or misuse of common names?

Neither. There simply aren't any set in stone common names for any specific species, so anything you see used as a common name is nothing more than marketing. The only undisputed common name is the generic 'Asian forest scorpion' which may refer to any Heterometrinae species. Hence why common names don't mean anything to me and I stick to scientific names.

this is true, the bottom 2 are usually listed as some kind of “giant asian blue forest” name, even though Cyaneus is now Javanimetrus not Heterometrus.
The actual common names for Heterometrus are:

Heterometrus Silenus
Vietnamese Forest Scorpion

Javanimetrus Cyaneus
Java Blue Forest Scorpion

Heterometrus Spinifer
Malaysian Forest Scorpion

Heterometrus Laoticus
Thai Forest Scorpion

Of course these are usually mixed up quite a bit, this is why it’s best to use scientific names.
