"He would sell rats arseholes to blind men calling them diamond rings." -of John Boy in Paper Moon. They get sold as every kind of Heterometrus
That’s the first time I’ve heard that as a common name. If you’re referring to Malaysian Forest scorpions that’s the common name for Heterometrus Spinifer"He would sell rats arseholes to blind men, calling them diamond rings." -of John Boy in Paper Moon.
BTW, Malaysian Blue Claw, which isn't a proper name, is also Silenus.
Thanks for the correction. Blue Claw as I know it is a local nickname.Malaysian Forest scorpions that’s the common name for Heterometrus Spinifer
Neither. There simply aren't any set in stone common names for any specific species, so anything you see used as a common name is nothing more than marketing. The only undisputed common name is the generic 'Asian forest scorpion' which may refer to any Heterometrinae species. Hence why common names don't mean anything to me and I stick to scientific names.Heterometrus silenus
Heterometrus cyaneus
Heterometrus spinifer
I have seen all 3 listed as "Asian Forest Scorpion" and the bottom two as "Asian Blue Scorpion"
Is this just a case of blatant mislabeling? Or misuse of common names?
this is true, the bottom 2 are usually listed as some kind of “giant asian blue forest” name, even though Cyaneus is now Javanimetrus not Heterometrus.Heterometrus silenus
Heterometrus cyaneus
Heterometrus spinifer
