I did some herping at Mason Neck State Park in VA this past weekend. What a day! The last one is for pitbulllady. I know she's got a thing for water snakes.
All it takes is a little bit of persistence and a willingness to search off the beaten path. Mason Neck is just 40 minutes from DC. I'm sure you could find these same species near you.I didn't think anyone around here ever did that (well, not that close) But still. I keep telling my girl we should go herping... and she keeps telling me that there's an ointment we'd have to take afterwards.. =)
after we joke about it for a while, she realizes how cool it is when you get to see things, then put them back and not have to feed them and care for them!
Where else around is a good place to go.. Myself i'm in central va (richmond) but i really can't even imagine finding anything other than the normal stuff.. i guess we need to hit up the mountains, or marshes somewhere a bit aways
