Finally, got a few post molt pics of my bigger P. Cancerides. Molted on 9-11 while I was at work, as usual:wall: .
I tried to slip the exuvium out without destroying it but it was in between the half log hide and the back wall of the kritter keeper. I finally thought I'd try to lift up the back of the hide and ease it out. Grendel was not too happy.
To make a long story short, (long version is on the ATS board) He sat nice and still for a few pics, did'nt try to escape or chomp my flesh.
The exuvium was 6.5", I did'nt approach Grendel with the tape so, size is, ahh---bigger.
Here's what I think is my Phormictopus Cancerides. Guy I bought him/her from a couple of months ago just said it was a "brown birdeater", thats all he knew. For $25.00 it was a deal no matter what!

Uhhrmmm I don't know if that looks like a P cancerides. It kinda looks like a l parahybana to me. The setae are too red and I don't see the green/brown/purple irridescence on the carapace. Usually a flash really brings that out. Of course I've been wrong before and certainly will be again...

Beautiful T in any case.

Looks very P. cancerides to me. Nice spider! I had a big female once...
Now I can't wait for the slings to grow...

OooooK. I concede. Still though, It's more on the reddish side than my lil 4" gal. Do the setae just get redder as they approach maturity? Maybe it's just differences in individual specimens...

There are slight coloration differences with P. cancerides. Some females don't have any of the purple but have gold instead. And I don't know about slings since mine are mature adults but they do have some reddish setae.

it is a beautiful T. it looks kinda like my Sericopelma rubronitens are the hairs on abdomen red?
if that looks like your S rubronitens it is in need of a molt bad! S rubronitens are black with bright red hairs on the abdomen... not brown.
