I am dabeling In breeding my own Crickets as a food sorce for my Scorps. However i find them almost as fasinating as my Scorps. However I have had an escape! Some pinheads must of made a run for it whilst incubating them, or trensphering them. I am now finding young crickests in verious places around the house. They are not as big as the ones i have reard, so obviously not doing as well. How long will they live in a house in the UK, and could they breed???? Also any one know how to stop crickets from canabalising each other. I had a big female who would munch on anything she came into contact with, removed her, and another large female tookover the job.

......

They won't make it out there...unless they find some warm spot with lots of food in your house....what i don't think this would be the case due to the non warm/tropical enviroment around your house.
Good luck.....and i hope you like the concert tonight.{D

Sound the siren and notify the warden. It's a prison break.:D

Don't lose too much sleep over it. They won't survive long outside their enclosure. They'll probably be back when you feed the rest of them.

You may want to consider raising a non-climbing roach specie(s) for feeders. I still have some crickets here but have been raising roaches as well. Roaches have MANY advantages over crickets. Relating to your post they don't jump or eat their young. There are many other advantages also. I've had many crickets escape but not one roach.

The big problem I've had is with the male crickets escaping and making noise. That's when I get out the big rubber band. I'm getting pretty good with a rubber band. I've even had to resort to using a BB gun if I can't get to them otherwise.

I had two crickets escape by climbing up a power cord in my scorp tank. One I found dried out behind my desk and the other was crawling across our ceiling. My wife was not amused. So I sucked it up with our vacuum.

I'm going to start with roaches here soon. Wife doesnt want them in the house so I'm working on putting something together to keep them nice and warm in the garage before I order some.

To tell you the truth I would much prefer to have roaches in the house than crickets. Crickets tend to escape make noise and smell. Non-climbing roaches do none of the above. They also don't tend to eat their young.

I had a cricket problem and then I had a tokay gecko escape, I no longer have a cricket problem and I can still hear the gecko quacking occassionally. :)

I cannot wait until My roach colonies start, so I dont have to do the cricket thing. When my crickets escaped, I blamed the crickets in the house on the wild ones from outside. but if you put some glue traps along the walls you should be able to catch the wayward crickets. good luck with the roaches and BTW my wife has no idea I am raising them. Ahh the beauty of colored sterlite containers. good luck with them.

I tried raising crickets, but they stunk too bad. Now I just get a week's supply at a time at the petstore.

I keep them in a kritter cage that is missing the access lid. Since they are small-mediums for my current Ts, it takes a lucky leap to get out.

We find an escapee once or twice a week. Sometimes these are guys that get away from me while I am trying to feed.

My wife saw another one of these escapees the other morning and got mad. I told her not to worry, the cat will take care of it eventually. She snatched my newspaper and tea and told me I couldn't have them back until I put a lid on the cricket enclosure. Ah well...

When the Ts get bigger, I want to switch to roaches. Unfortunately, my wife hates roaches ( cat likes them tho, sometimes we find roach parts lying around). May have to try the colored sterilite container trick for raising roaches, but if my wife pops the lid, I'm dead.

Well, worry about that in a year or so, Ts are small now.
