Its a female here is link to a gif (its the 2nd image on reddit click the arrow to the right) to see it better
the next line is a clickable link...

(1) I found this guy/gal in my bin the other day- 1/2 and 1/2 : isopods (reddit.com)

(someone pointed out it they think its a molt but
its been like this for a almost 2 weeks now
study the image a bit closer/longer the colors overlap into each others section like a zig-zag
if you watch the gif on reddit its closer/better she walks and turns so you get a back view

I'm trying to find out if I should leave her with the 25 wild I caught 2 years ago ( and she came from)

-or isolate her now
i have her isolated at the moment

And then what-

Should I put her with just 1 male or -2 -3 males-(idk if they store sperm from multiple males=better chances if male has same trait?)

I guess safest would be to put her back with all the rest probably?
and just watch all /any babies popping up in entire small bin
and then isolate more if they appear?

Or is it simply I need another 'pied' a male (which i obviously don't) to produce more-o
I am only a hobby person not geneticist - I want to make more' just because' and to possibly trade for other isopods etc.

****update- I would for sure get pied babies if i had a pied male also ;someone said elsewhere-so I guess she goes back in with rest and fingers crossed

It's hard to tell from the picture, but to me this just looks like an isopod that has recently molted. They molt one half at a time, so the lighter half would be the recently molted half. Could definitely be wrong though!

My bad I see now! Cool specimen, unfortunately I can't offer any breeding advice. Best of luck!

Is there any reason to think that this isn't a somatic mutation? I would think the fact that the 'color morph' manifested post molt might be an indication that it's not a trait you can breed out. That being said, I don't know balls about isopods or selective breeding for traits.

If you just have one, I'd leave it with the rest to hopefully produce more. Once you can spot multiple like that, then start a new colony of just that morph and remove any normals that they produce. Fun project, good luck!

haha idk what somatic mutation means .im guessing a one off caused by external factor(s)?I will look it up.
