when i came home from the store i found my tarantula on the floor by my bed it had escaped my tank which i dont know how and its about four feet from the ground. i inspected him nothing is wrong. i feed him he catches a large cricket and his second to last pair of legs twitch very fast they bend almost completely backwards they actually touched each other behind its carapace. what going on? should i put him in ICU? how do you properly do ICU? I'll try post a video

He may have internal injuries, not much you can do in that case. :(

Also, you should have posted this in the tarantula questions section, you'd get more replies if you did.

I would be twitching too if I was being poked with a paintbrush. Leave it alone for a while and see what happens!

it has raised abdomen and his 3rd and 4th pair of legs hes dragging.
is he trying to d autonomy? is it possible DKS? has anyone ever experienced something like this. if its internal damage how can i be sure , how long will he live? should i ... its hard to say... but make him ... not suffer:wall: :(

i will be uploading another twitching video and one of it's raised abdomen will take an hour or so because of my slow computer.

Well, first off don't kill it like you alluded to earlier. Would there have been any pesticides or anything else harmful that the T could have gotten into when it was out? If you want to you could keep it in the ICU for a few days and see if it shows signs of improvement. I've had a twitchy P. regalis that stopped doing these twitches after a few days in an ICU. My ICU wasn't meant for treating dehydration, but more to keep the T from running up decorations and falling. Which it was doing before I removed her. I did keep a moistened paper towel in the bottom of the container so she could drink though. Other than that there isn't much you can do. Just DON'T kill it to "stop its suffering". Let it try and get through this on its own. I wish your T and you good luck.

I've never owned a T that went through DKS but I went through a stage where I did lots of research on it in case I DID expeiance it with one of my Ts, and in my opinion that does not look like DKS. Again this is just my opinion, I was hoping someone else with more experiance would step in. I couldn't say exactly what it looks like to me, maybe just some damage to the legs? I think if he's eating that a pretty good sign.

She's right, it's not DKS. Just keep an eye on him, there's not much else you can really do. But eating is always a good sign so just check in on him every now and then. Tarantulas are a lot more resilient than a lot of people think they are.

yep not DKS i have had expeirienced this befor in a rosie, avic ,and obt they freaked out a lot more when i touched them then yours did and they couldnt walk right at all it kinda looks like some one had put strings on all the legs and started tyring puppet the spider, because the legs didnt extend they just lifted up and it was a really bouncy walk with the legs curling under the spider. sorry for your loss it was probably inturnal.

Hi all...this is my first post.

I was very intrigued when I read about the tarantula twitching that later died. I, at one time, owned four T's and two of them, one a rose hair and the other a pink toe both died of what sounds like the same ailment. My other two were not affected. To me, it looked like something definitely neurological. I am a beginner with T's and am hoping to acquire another one soon as I do not have any right now. Couple of questions...What is DKS? Also, any advice on reliable breeders? Thanks!!
