i just realized that in one of my t's tanks (the 10 gallon) there is mold growing on the side that the water dish is on... this t always spills his water for some reason and after he puts his cricket remains in it and uses it (the dish) as a toilet.. anyways now i realized that that whole end is growing with mold and i was wondering why? considering the temperature is 75 degrees ferenheight and the whole lid is screened meaning there is a lot of ventalation... is this bad for the t?? help! :(

Mold is bad!! I've heard that it can get into their little book lungs! What species is it? You can probably dry out the tank, but be sure to scoop out all off the mold.

With my Ts who insist on using their water dishes as toilets and garbage disposals, I dig a little hole, put the water dish into it, and leave the water level much lower. This way they can crawl into the bowl and play all they want, but the water is low enough so that it won't slosh out.

Now, if only we had a flushable T water dish!

Yep bro get the mold out of there. There are various types of mold and fungus whose mycelium thrive at 50 to 75 degrees going to spore at higher temps. If conditions are right youll get mold or fungus despite ventilation. Control of humidity plus good ventilation is the best control ive found, also certain types of substrate support mold or fungus more readily than others.

just take out the mold and a little portion around the mold so it doesnt spread...but i dont think there will be any problem other than that though...unless it has been there for a LONG time..

Hmmm, clean out all bolus' (boli? bolium? bolia?) and dead insect parts. Other than that, I can't imagine where it's coming from unless you have "tainted" peat moss. If you keep it clean and dry and the molds returns, I would consider chaning the substrate altogether.

Mold?

What exactly is the mold on?
I had a little wooden (log like) hide I had to get rid of because it grew mold.
Could be just cricket remains though.

the mold "WAS" on the substrate itself considering i jUST changed the substrate except for the substrate under my t's log hideout where he hangs out, it was pretty funny, it looked like my t's hideout was on an island! anyways after mizm told me that the molt could be bad for my beloved homeboy i decided to take evasive action and clean all the substrate down to the glass, wash all the glass with water and paper towel and replace it with fresh peat moss which i buy in bags that are re-sealable to guarentee freshness... it's actually made my schultz' comapany and has no additives or anything! I'm relieved!
