Ok so the muppet father in law moved the snake tank and left a gap which Oscar the corn snake has gone wandering through.

I imgaine escaped time to be anywhere from 12-17 hours now i have emptied the room best i can and looked under the bed in the radiators etc.

Im fairly confident he is still in the room undersome laundry or inside the lining of the wardrobes etc.

He is about 18 inches long and still pretty thin.

So far I have defrosted 3 mice and brained them on a saucer on my subwoofer to lure him out is this ok.

Is there any particular method to finding snakes? :'(

Bloody snakes

My little spotted python has escaped twice on me and each time I have found her when I was not looking for her. I came to realize that when snakes escape I close the door to the room that they are in and in due time they show up on their own. Good luck.

When our corn snake was small she used to escape all the time. Her favourite place to hide was in plant pots. Have you checked inside your subwoofer?
She's over 4' long now and has escaped once since adulthood. Unfortunately she managed to get under the floorboards. This was in the autumn and we eventually resigned ourselves to the fact that she probably died over the winter. Six months after disappearing she turned up again in the living room, perfectly healthy.
This is probably no use what-so-ever (unless she turns up in your subwoofer) but I thought it might provide some hope.

Search and search again, turn your house upside down if neccessery. Put strips of tape on the floor at night

You may also try cooling off the entire place and leaving a warmspot or something out to lure her with...

Btw, have you checked all the warm spots in the house yet (like behind the fridge)?

Yeah i checked behind the fridge and anywhere else i can think of. Problem is its as cool as i can get it in here without opening the windows which i obviously dont want to do.

The mice have been left untouched.

If any of them go missing overnight then i can truly destroy the room.

I think theres a fair chance it escaped out the window though its normally v interested in the smell of fresh air.

:(

Thanks everyone ill keep it posted.

Don Soderburg at www.cornsnake.net has a neat homemade trap out of a 2 litter bottle:

http://www.cornsnakes.net/photogalleryhr.php

Place this against a wall with maybe a towell over the "body" of the trap...so it looks like a nice dark hidding spot... maybe even put a live fuzzie or hopper in it...

Snakes are wonderful escape artists and hidders... you'll usually find them sooner or later... especially at night...

you know those walmart/grocery store bags? stick them in all the nooks and crannies of the room you lost him in, and the rooms next to it, you'll hear it rustle when he moves.

I had a boa that always got out, so I just kept the bags there, and it wasnt long before i found him lol

Great idea about taping the door cracks at night and the bottle trap bags etc. All mice are still there and i have been out for like 8 hours :'(

Just hoping he didnt go out the window he wont survive british weather and i doubt he has the balls to catch his own food.

You could also try putting cornstarch or flour along the walls. If he goes through it, you'll see the tracks. May not help you find him, but will let you know if he's still in the room or not.

you think 6 months is long, I had a Ball python lost in my basement for a year and a half. My dog was the one to find him and woke me up barking at it at 3am

Whenever any of my Corn snakes make a break for it 9 times out of 10 they go vertical. I've found mine on top of other tanks, kitchen chairs, bookcases, behind the monitor on my computer desk and it always seems to be last place I think I would go if I were a snake. Corns are excellent climbers so don't limit your search to floor level.

Good luck.

I worked at a pet store about 14 years ago and we had a little baby nile monitor get out. We found him a year later and about 30'' longer. He tried to bite me while I was changing water in a fish tank. You see he was napping on the lights inside the tank racks.

Well.. I've never had a snake die on me.. and even if they do escape.. they're all in excess of 5' and quite a few inches thick.. but I'll admit that no matter the size.. they get into some impossibly tiny places and they manage things you wouldn't dream of.
"My" (mother's) 8' boa got loose for 6 months and turned up outside on the patio in a black trash bag healthy and docile just soaking up the heat....
Crazy snakes.

Snake traps are your best bet.. I have a lot more experience catching escapee lizards than snakes.. but possibly just put out a bowl of water in the middle of the wall large enough for the snake to soak in, and a basking light (Or any high powered bulb) next to it.. more often than not, if you check in the middle of the night and in the afternoon and evening.. you'll find her soaking and getting warm.. if nothing else, place some flour or starch around the bowl.. and if you see tracks, you'll know that she's hydrated and still out and about.
