So I live in Southern Alberta (Canada) and I was working in my garden. While we were digging up weeds and dead plant material we kept finding wasp like insects in the soil. They were about 1 cm long and had no stinger that I could see. We found 7 of these little guys within the garden. They also had fuzzy back legs like a worker bee, but seemed to be more slender than bees like a wasp, but with the fuzzy pollen collecting back legs.

Any help would be appreciated.

correct me if I'm wrong my Canadian friends, but doesn't that describe the majority of Canadian species? But anywho, look up andrenid bees and halictid bees. Those two are the only thing I can gather from the information you've said...Someone with more experience may chime in though.

Thank you. They were andrenid bees, I looked up the names you gave me. I was not aware we had solitary bee species here. It would make sense that they burrowed around the small flowing plants in my garden. Easy access for food.

Learn something new every day. :D
