New to this forum, so my apologies if this is the wrong place for this, but I figured that arachnid enthusiasts would probably be the ones to give me the best answer for this question.

I caught a little camel spider at my workplace that my coworkers were wanting to stomp on, and I've brought the little one home with me to observe over the weekend before I release it near where he was caught when I go back to work in a few days. I don't Intend to try and keep it as I've heard they're difficult to keep alive in captivity for very long.

Anyways, when I caught the little thing, I noticed that it has two strange lumps on its back that I've never seen on any of the others I've spotted around here before. I know there are some weird little bumps on their underside that I've read are some kind of sensory organ I believe? I can't recall the name of them now, but the bumps I'm talking about are on its back and are much bigger. I'm wondering if this is something natural for this species, or if this poor guy is being parasitized by some sort of wasp or something? I've seen a couple of these critters before, but I'm not super knowledgeable about them myself so I was hoping you all might have some insight. I've included two pictures where you can see the bumps I'm wondering about.

Sorry if the images aren't super clear, I'm trying not to handle and stress out the little guy any more than necessary before I release him. Oh, and I'm located in central Oregon in the US if that helps for identifying.

i'd assume some kind of parasitoid wasp larvae or something, tho there being two is curious.
but i don't know much of anything about solifuge anatomy. i've just seen lotsa spiders with unwanted guests.

That was my first thought as well, but the fact that there were two of them in a sort of symmetrical position made me curious if this wasn't something normal for them. They're very alien looking little creatures, and I'm not the most knowledgeable about their anatomy. If it is some sort of wasp larvae, would there be any suggested method of removing them so the little one has a better chance after I release him? Or would trying to take them off now just cause more harm than good at this stage? I'd hate to think the poor guy is just doomed now, saved from a squashing only to be slowly eaten alive instead.

Tweezers to hold on to Parasite
Maybe A steady hand could apply a " Very Salty Solution " to the (Parasite Only) with a Q-Tip ?
Just a little dab
Tweezers to hold on to Parasite and remove immediately
Sterilize / Clean Tweezers with Denatured Alcohol and repeat

I’d try this and report back . 😃 if it’s released the way it is right now it’s guaranteed die.

That worked! I was able to remove both of the little buggers, and I'm sure the camel "spider" is relieved to have that weight off his back. Though he did get rather angry when I was trying to get hold of the parasites, trying to bite the tweezers and such. Now I'm just going to leave him be to rest and recover until it's time to go back to work and release him again. Thanks everyone!

Wow nice 👍. Sounds challenging! Welcome to ab . I don’t live in tropics so no giant predatory inverts here . I think praying mantis is the largest.
